The older we get, the more serious we need to
be seem to those around us. Updating your entire wardrobe, like really really updating, isn’t just in everyone’s budget. So I wrote out some staple pieces you should add to your closet. Don’t freak, just add in one item at a time and before you know it you be on your way to seriousness + adulting. Enjoy, xoxo!
Go to makeup look (or lip color)
Okay, not a closet item…however, having that go-to look or lip can save you so much time and allows you nail it every single time. I have my favorite look that I use for business meetings, work, class, on dates, going to the club, etc. It’s super simple, glowy, and a slight natural beat to where it’s not doing to much but really brings out my features.
A pair of professional (and comfy) pumps
My friend’s hate my go-to pumps because that’s exactly what they are my go-to. I wear them everywhere because they look super expensive (they weren’t), are two different kinds of nudes, and are so freaking comfy!!! Which is a plus because if I have to be in them for long periods my feet won’t ache, I can actually
walk strut in them, and they don’t hurt my old lady knees. But you should all have some or get some because these will come in handy.
I don’t think you can ever have too many slacks in your closet. They just upscale you’re entire look and I love it. My collection of fancy pants are growing like crazy…I’ve gotten mine from either Forever 21, Old Navy (don’t sleep on them, they have bomb workout gear too), and White House Black Market….only one pair of pants from there because I ain’t balling like that yet lol. But don’t be scared to have fun with patterns too, I have plaid, solid, and cheetah printed slacks!
Go to flats
You want fancy and chic flats in your wardrobe closet because sometimes pumps just aren’t life but you want to come across professional. Flats are a great choice. To go for the extra grown-up and upscale look try to snag some flats that have a pointed toe…those are my personal favorite. I don’t have a single rounded flat or pump in my closet.
Blazer (calm and poppin’)
Add to you favorite casual tee, some ripped jeans, and you are instantly business casual. Having a blazer for those special moments will have whoever you come in contact with extremely impress!
Blouse or nice button up
You need a nice shirt to go with your fancy pants or underneath your trench coat. A nice blouse or button-up adds that grown up feel, be sure to add it into your closet!
Same color suit for all my boss ladies
Y’all, something about a #girlboss in a same colored suit is just so bomb to me because suits were made (at first) for men so when a woman wears and slays a suit is just extra boss mode. You can even use your blazer and fancy pants to kill two birds with one stone!
Knee-length pencil dress/skirt
You don’t want to be in pants 24/7 so change up your style by adding a knee-length pencil dress and/or skirt to your closet. Knee-length and tight anything is my favorite because it’s classy and sexy at the same time and it hugs you in the right places and show off those bangin’ curves.
Grown up purse or bag
This is the only item I don’t have because I am always on the go and have my school backpack and my wallet that holds all I need. But this is something I want to get very soon. It doesn’t have to be high end either, Target does the job just fine.
Just look the power and presence a nice trench coat adds to a simple look, ahhhhh. Yes.
